So this is one of my new favorite paintings. It is called "Jehovah Creates the Earth" by Walter Rane. I am not a creationist by any means and figure that those intelligent design folks stole the term right out from under us people who knew what it really meant. Intelligent design did not start out life as creationism. Rather some of us out there figured that we liked the idea of evolution, but had a belief that God used it as a tool of creation. So some well meaning, but rather un-educated creationist needed a new term for their same old story and stole it lock stock and barrel.
But the painting is one of power. I have not seen art like this coming from modern artists. The raw power and movement. It just reaches out and grabs you. I love the one of the paintings he has hanging in the Conference Center at Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. It is one of Christ descending to the Nephits. I can't find a copy of it online. But Christ is reaching for the people. It is utterly moving.
